Genetically modified soy helps grow hair

Researchers at Kyoto University in Japan have developed a genetically modified soybean containing a substance that they have named Novokinin that spurs the growth of hair and helps prevent chemotherapy induced hair loss.
Novokinin is derived from a recently identified anti-hypertensive substance named ovokinin. Novokinin was shown to be about 100 times more anti-hypertensive than ovokinin and acts to expand blood vessels and promote circulation.
The researchers fed a small amount of novokinin to shaven mice and found that their hair grew back faster. Increased doses of Novokinin stopped hair loss from chemotherapy.
