Propecia (Finasteride) (also known as proscar for BPH)

Original Purpose or Use:

Proscar was originally intended to treat the condition BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia)

FDA Approved?

Yes. 1mg per day for hairloss. 5mg per day for BPH.

Scientific Results:

Clinically proven to regrow hair and stop baldness in most men.

Observed Results:

Minimal to moderate regrowth in some. Dense regrowth rare.

Notes:

Propecia is a pill that should be taken once per day. It's main function is to prevent the formation of DHT by stopping the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase from interacting with testosterone.

Side Effects:

Rare, but the experimental group had a very small percentage of people who experienced decreased libido and sexual dysfunction. It should not be used by women, especially pregnant women, because it can cause abnormalities in the genitals of the fetus.
