Eyelash transplant
I have a hypo thyroid condition which causes me to loose my eyelashes. Sometimes they do grow back, but it takes forever. So basically I usually have little or no lashes most of the time. I have resorted to false eyelashes and was searching the web and found eyelash transplants. Is this something that would help me or would the they fall out too.
Eyelash loss can be caused by heredity, age, as well as medications or medical conditions. Typically, because the follicles we use for eyelash transplants are from the scalp, they are 'stronger' than the original lash follicles. That means they are more resistant to some of the factors that would weaken them. Obviously, it would be very important to seek treatment for your thyroid condition, so the lashes have a good enviroment in which to grow. There is no 'guarantee' that this would protect the transplanted lashes 100%, but it would certainly improve the chances of them lasting for a long time. We can also prescribe medications that improve the density, pigmentation and length of the lashes.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
