Question Topic

Eyebrow Loss !! Please Help!!

Question

Hi, I was wondering if you could please help me. For the last 2 years I have used a hair dye, which was meant for the scalp, on my eyebrows to achieve a darker look. For those 2 years I was dying my eyebrows at least twice every month. Eight months ago, it all went seriously wrong. I caught a skin infection from using the dye and around 90 percent of my eyebrow hair completely fell out. I saw my doctor and he gave me a cream, which healed the skin infection and told me that my eyebrows would soon re-grow. Eight months on and I have seen hardly no re-growth at all, only a very few hairs. My eyebrow hair has only continued to slowly fall out and not re-grow. I have used Talika Eyebrow Lipocils for 2 months and I have not seen any new hairs. I also tried Regaine, but had to stop after 3 weeks as it was irritating and drying out my skin. The doctor said that I have not damaged the hair roots but I am very upset, as there is no re-growth and does not seem to be any solution to my problem. Please can you offer me any advice on what I should do. Thankyou. Jodie Foster

Answer

Hello Jodie, It's not clear from your question that the dye you used is connected with the infection. After all, you used it for about 2 years without incident. I was asked a question on another forum about Demodex mites and hairloss. While there is not a known cause-and-effect connection between them, Demodex are known to prefer living in eyebrows and lashes and many times are associated with bacterial and fungi infestation. You said that you were treated for bacteria and fungi, and maybe you can ask your physician to check your eyebrows area for Demodex. It is easy to get rid of them if they are identified. Since your checkup indicates that your roots are intact, you have a very good chance of growing your eyebrow hair again. Usually, Demodex likes to intrude at the eyebrow, eye-lashes and lower nose and the facial area near the nose. They may appear like acne and may itch sometimes, and may be connected with hairloss at the eyebrows and lashes areas. I am a scientist, not a physician, so I cannot give medical advice. If your current physician can't assist you, there's nothing wrong with seeking additional consultation until you find an answer to your question. Thank you for your question.
