Acne Medication Hair Loss
Hello Professor,
I have a question about my hair loss which I believe is caused by the acne drug called accutane. I have been off the medication for about 4 months and I have noticed a lot of hair falling out for the past 3 months.
All the hair that is falling out is comming from the top/front and sides of my hair.
However, the back of my head seems to be ok, and the very front of my hair line above my forehead does not seem to be effected as much.
I have seen a bit on new growth on the back of my head (I asked a friend to look) and I can see new hairs growing at the hair line above my forehead. On my forehead hairline I can see maybe 20 new hairs.
My fear is that I don't seems to see any growth on the sides of my head or on the top of my head.
Question:
I was wondering if these areas take longer to see new hair growth or if there's a problem.
Thank you for your time, and any advice is appreciated.
Dear Jason,
What is happening to your hair is called Telogen Effluvium. It may take 6-12 months for you to regrow your hair. Some areas may take longer than other areas.
