maximum density of hair transplants
Hello Dr. Bernstein
What is the maximum density that can be achieved with a hair transplant? If you had unlimited donor hair (e.g. lots and lots of body hair), could you achieve the same density as in the areas of your head that are not affected by the hair loss, or are there spatial limitations?
Also: Do the grafts leave scars? Could you still shave your head after a hair transplant, or would the scars be too obvious?
If you had unlimited hair you could achieve your original density. However, since hair is never unlimited (until we have cloning) you want to go to about 1/2 your original density at least in the front, where it is most important, and less towards the back. There should be no scarring in the recipient area, only in the donor area where the hair comes from.
Sincerely, Dr. Bernstein
