ingrown hairs
I'm 9 weeks into a 1200 graft strip transplant, mostly to the front temple area. My hair loss is moderate. I am having trouble with ingrown hairs, some started right after the transplant, and went a way (around 5) athough you can still fee very small bumps where they were. Now, I starting to get more again,(1 to 2 a week) many disappear after anitbiotic cream is applied, but some just appear to form slightly raised bumps that are tender. My Transplant Doc has treated some of them with a needle and they do appear to shrink. I have several concerns, is this common or not? Will treating these with needles damage may follicles? Did they plant these FU's too deep and thus causing the problem? Or worse yet to deep to dreprive them of the blood supply they need to grow. Will these's tender bumps eventually find their way to the surface? Thanks for you time.
Ingrown hairs are a common, temporary problem and usually resove within a few weeks. More common in patients with thin or curly hair. Who's the doc? I've noticed much fewer ingrown hairs on my patients when I use minoxidil and laser therapy post-operatively.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
