Testosterone and hairloss
Could the increase in testosterone from taking propecia lead to increased hairloss? If body builders lose more hair due to higher testosterone shouldn't propecia have a similiar effect?
No. Finasteride (Propecia) decreases DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels by blocking the breakdown of testosterone. DHT is the chemical responsible for causing male pattern hair loss. We don't really know why body builders have accelerated hair loss, but it is believed to be related to surges in Tesosterone which is then converted into DHT. Theoretically, if a body-builder was on Propecia, he could avoid the accelerated hair loss by preventing the breakdown of testosterone to DHT.
