young and balding
Alan, My hair condition isn't very bad at all and probably what you'd expect from a teenager entering his twenties. I have had evidence of receding for several years but nothing really serious. The exception however is what I have experienced over the past few days on the left side above my forehead. A bald area along which appears to be a natural receding area has emerged and is quite worse than the other side. I believe it has to do with my head position during sleep (on my stomach). I am considering taking Propicia and was wondering if there was something else I could do to save and restructure this newly bald area. Thank you very much for your efforts.
The receding hairline you are experiencing is likely due to male pattern hair loss. It is not uncommon for one side to look a little worse than the other. It is remotely possible that alopecia areata is happening in that rapid area of hair loss. Male pattern hair loss does not occur within days, it takes years. A consultation with a hair restoration physician is recommended. Propecia is the standard-of-care for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Alopecia areata usually resolves on its own.
Is the area circular?
Is there a change in skin texture?
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
