hair loss
hi i have just started to use viviscal. my hair falls a lot and it has started to thin. i am puzzled. if viviscal is so good then how come it is not splashed everywhere in the media?
dermatologist end up recomending rogaine...though it doesn't work either.
is viviscal a farce? there are no clinicl evidence except those that are published by the viviscal founders themselves........so they hardly count...right?
Naureen,
Thank you for your question. If you are having hair loss, you need to consult with a Hair Restoration Physician for an EVALUATION, first. Your local dermatologist, unless he is an ISHRS.org member, does not count because he may not be familiar with the state-of-the-art treatments. Treatments will likely include the fda-approved treatments first. For female hair loss, the "first-line" recommended medical therapy is Minoxidil. Other treatments that might be recommended could possibly include hair transplantation, laser therapy, nutritional modification, etc.
In my practice, we have dispensed viviscal for years--initially at the request of some patients who felt they were getting some positive results. The recent NBC Dateline Follicle Five 'hair challenge' revealed that the patient that was taking viviscal had some positive changes in his hair. (BTW, some people might call that a massive media "splash," considering there were over NINE MILLION viewers for each of the two episodes.) However, we are not talking massive regrowth here... He (and the independant dermatologist) noticed an increase in the QUALITY of his hair. Viviscal is NOT a miracle cure, and certainly not your 'first line' of defense, but it seems like some patients have results with it. The small clinical trials done on Viviscal are not groundbreaking, but good luck finding a massive clinical trial on a hair growth vitamin or supplement--they just don't exist.
Let me know if this answers your questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
