female forehead reduction
Hi, I'm a 22 year old female with receding hairline and a high forehead( I always have a high hairline). I am considering having a hair transplant. But I heard about the "shock loss" and they said women get shock loss more often than men. I am afraid that I'll get severe shock loss after HT and will not be able to grow them back( eventhogh I've heard it's only temparery), and the situation will be even worse than it is now. Could you please tell me how safe hair transplant really is?
Also, what other treatment would you recommend?
Thank you very much.
Wendy,
Hair transplantation at any age is a serious decision, and requires the weighing of risks and benefits. This is the kind of discussion we would have during a consultation. Without, at the very least, seeing photos of your current hairline/hair loss status, a discsussion would have to be in very general terms. It is true that 'shock' is a rare, temporary situation that can occur in the areas we transplant that already have some hair, but typically this is not a major concern with todays microsurgical technqiques. Also, there are ways to help prevent the temporary thinning that occurs before the transplanted hair grows (like minoxidil, laser therapy, etc.)
If you would like to send photos of your hairline, I'd be happy to take a look. Let me know what additional questions you have.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
