Receding Hairline on one side of the temple
Dear Dr. Bauman,
For a few years now, I have noticed a high concentration of hair loss on one side of my temples (right side). It has become progressively worse the past 10 worse which is noticibly uneven. I have been on Propecia for a few months and wanted my hair loss to neutralize or be in control before I do hair transplant surgery. My two questions are, why is only one receding hair line more progressed than the other (by the way, the other side is pretty normal for a small hair line) & also, when should it be a good time to wait until I do this hair transplant surgery? (Meaning when will I know that my hair problem is a little more in control) By the way, what other treatments do you recommend aside from taking Propecia?
Asymmetrical hairline recession is common. Propecia and minoxidil are the two fda-approved medications for hair loss. In my medical practice I also use laser therapy and nutritional interventions in some cases. In some younger patients, we might choose a non-invasive regimen for 6 months or longer before recommending transplantation.
Photos would be helpful. Send them to doctorb@baumanmedical.com
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
