Higher minoxidil
Hoping you can provide a honest answer.
Is there any truth that higher concentrations such as 15% minoxidil can cause heart palipitations or other systemic effects when applied topically? Is this more of a rarity or more common than manufacturers wish to report??
Thanks...
Rick,
Unfortunately, minoxidil is known to have some rare side effects--even at 2% and 5%. We just don't have the large studies to show how much the side effects increase with dosages over 5%.
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations
•difficulty breathing
•dizziness or fainting spells
•skin rash, blisters, or itching
•stiff or swollen joints
•sudden weight gain
•swelling of the feet or legs
•unusual weakness
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
•headache
•redness, irritation and itching at the site of application
•unusual hair growth, on the face, arm, and back
Let me know if you have other questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
