teenager with hair loss/thinning
Our teenaged daughter was diagnosed 4 months ago with Seborrheic Dermatitis. She started experiencing abnormal amounts of hair shedding along with tremendous itching and dandruff. She was put on Capex Shampoo for 10 days. This cleared her dandruff by 90%. Since then she has shampooed with various dandruff shampoos (salicylic acid, pyrithione zinc, selenium sulfide). She is continuing to lose hair, even at a greater rate. After 2 additional trips to the dermatologist, he still says "seborrheic dermatitis" but that it's "puzzling" how much she's losing and NOT REGROWING her hair given the mildness of the S.D. Thyroid and anemia tests were fine. Is there anything else internally that could cause continued hair loss? Externally her scalp seems to look fine.
This is impossible to diagnose over the internet. I recommend visiting your derm again.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
