Results of stopping Minoxidil
Dr. Bauman, My 23 yr. old daughter has signifigant hair loss probably as the result of hypothyridism and sever dieting. While some hair has regrown, after addressing her diet she still has many bald spots. The derm has suggested Minoxidil. However, since she would not be able to take this medication during pregnancy we are very concerned about the possiblity of worsening hair loss should she stop the medication in the future. Can you give me any feedback on the outcome of stopping Minoxidil. Many thanks in advance.

Stopping minoxidil will likely cause some shedding. The good thing is that during pregnancy, hair growth typically improves dramatically. Once the pregnancy is done, we would need to re-evaluate in order to combat future hair loss. Is she pregnant now or are you just planning for the future?
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
