Thinning
I am a 45yr old male. In the last 6 months I have begun to develop a bald patch on my crown. Prior to this I have always had strong thick hair. The hair on the front of my head is also thinning but not particularly noticeable yet. I do not take any regualr medication so have ruled this out as a possible cause. My father (now 70) has a full head of hair as did his father. My maternal grandfather had a receding hairline.
I accept that thinning is a natural part of the ageing process but Id like to hang on to what Ive got for as long as possible!
I have two questions :
Firstly is this temporary (for whatever reason) or is it the beginning of pattern baldness and hence likely to get worse
Secondly If I start to use Regaine (Rogaine in the US) is this likely to reverse the trend
Thanks for any assistance you are able to offer
Brian
Brian,
The pattern you describe is male-pattern-hair-loss. It is not typically a "temporary" situation without treatment. Treatment to stop hair loss would include Propecia and Minoxidil. If you are looking to significantly restore the area, you will need to consider hair transplantation as an option.
If you send a photo, I can give you a better idea of how each treatment might help the situation.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
