Propecia and Testosterone levels
Dr. Bauman,
Thank you for having this awesome website. This site really helps me and others battle their fears of hair loss. I have a few questions
I've been a Propecia user for a few years now and I really enjoy working out. Prior to using Propecia Ive seen more muscle mass and strength at age 32 than 34. Is it possible that Propecia reduces your testosterone levels, and how much?
Also my sex drive has declined, is it possible my testosterone levels are too low?
As a body builder, if I increase my testosterone level naturally will it increase my hair loss despite taking Propecia?
Thank you for your time!
Scott
Actually, because the breakdown of testosterone is blocked by Propecia, you can actually see an increase. Decreasing sex drive from Propecia is extremely rare (less than two percent of patients). If you increase your testosterone levels, it will probably increase your hair loss.
It is common for body builders to have increased hair loss, regardless of their use of testosterone or other performance enhancers.
What is your pattern of hair loss?
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
