Question

1) Do you have a pattern of hairloss, which follows the typical hair loss in males? 2) Do you notice that the hair loss has been gradual? 3) Have you seen miniaturized hairs, or baby hairs on your scalp? _____________________________________________ 1) I have small receding hair lines on both sides of my temples, one side has started to recede more, enough so that I have noticed change. this side has about a half an inch of baby hairs, these baby hairs mark where my hair line use to be. 2) The hair loss has been somewhat gradual, I think perhaps it may be moving at a faster pace now. 3) And yes as I mentioned above, I have noticed baby hairs where the hair line has receded, also the very front portion (forehead hair line) has baby hairs as well. I became worried because in some areas on top of my head I have been able to see my scalp easier, I am worried that these baby hairs are the cause of thinning, shrinking and then falling out, etc. a lot of these hairs look very thin and seem to curl and sit differently as if they are burnt, if that makes any sense, this is on top of my head. As for the baby hairs that are positioned near my temples, these hairs are very light in color and about a fourth of an inch long. I'm wondering if I should return to the dermatologist and see if I could be put on propecia. I am scared to wash my hair because it leaves my hair feeling thin. I was also wondering if propecia works as long as you stay on it, or if it just slows the progress of hair loss?

Answer

Dear Mike, From your description, it appears that you are experiencing Male Pattern Hair loss. This could be corrected with the use of an anti-DHT treatment like Propecia or Revivogen. With use of anti-DHT treatments, you should at least maintain the hairs that you have with expectation of some regrowth in the frontal hair line.
