Galeatomy
I am considering an operation called galeatomy to stop my hairloss. Unfortunaly there is very little information about this topic on the Internet. Do you know if such an operation often result in stopping hairloss?
A galeatomy is an 'opening' of the scalp. If you are referring to a 'scalp reduction,' this was more common years ago. More patients today seem to prefer transplantation to a scalp reduction because of the lower risks involved and the fact that today's grafting is so efficient. Years ago, scalp reductions were more popular than today because the 'grafting' options were inefficient. Old-style 'plugs' just couldn't get the job done, whereas todays "follicular-unit micrografting" yields exceptional results for the vast majority of patients. Also, be aware that neither scalp reductions or hair transplantation alone addresses the progressive nature of hair loss (that is what Propecia and other medical treatments do). Without some kind of treatment to stop the progression of hair loss, more invasive treatments will be necessary.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
