hair regrowth
I'm 19, and I've always had long hair past my waist. It used to be very thick all the way down, so naturally, I took it for granted. Because I didn't take care of it very well,(brushing while it was wet, etc.) it's nowhere as thick as it was. Everywhere I look, hair loss is talked about and treated as a disease. I don't necessarily suffer from "hair loss," but I would like to know how I can regrow the hair that I lost. I've heard a lot about massaging the scalp with oil. Does that work? Do shampoos that "regrow" hair really work? Which ones are the best? Thanks in advance.
It is true that most 'hair loss' is a chronic, progressive condition (like a disease) that can be treated. Massage, Shampoos, oils, etc. however do not affect the hair follicles or regrow hair in any way. (Imagine your hand-soap growing your fingernails better--it just doesn't happen.) Shampoo is designed to wash your scalp and hair.
There are treatments that are available to grow your hair 'the best it can be.' These treatments include nutritional supplementation and even laser therapy. Laser therapy is a treatment that can enhance your hair follicles through the use of phototherapy. Do you have hair loss in your family?
Sometimes, no matter what the treatment, you may never be able to re-grow the head of hair you had as a teenager.
Let me know if you'd like more info on these treatments.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
