hairloss first step
I think im losing my hair because it is thinning on the top and crown. I saw the dermatologist who said she didnt see any signs of hairloss but Im pretty sure I really am but its not bad enough to notice yet. I was wondering about finasteride but I want professional advice before I try anything should I visit a hairloss treatment center or another dermatologist? Secondly I hear shedding is really bad for some people and I was curious if the hair will for sure grow back after the shedding because I dont wish to make the problem any worse.
Joe,
Unfortunately, most dermatologists don't make treating hair loss a priority. You need to find a physician who is dedicated exclusively to treating hair loss. Your hair restoration physician should do density measurements, take photos, prescribe treatments/procedures and monitor their results. Propecia (finasteride) is the critical step in treating male pattern hair loss. However, if your hairline is receded and thinnning is significant, you might need transplantation to restore the lost coverage. Everyone sheds hair daily (100-200 is normal). However, if you have a receding hairline or thinning, you are experiencing something more than routine shedding. The earlier you seek treatment, the better.
Let me know how I can help.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
