4.5 months post-op after second hair transplant

Posted on Monday 1 September 2008

For all intents and purposes, I have a full head of hair now, after a second hair transplant with Dr. Wong of Hasson and Wong.

I went in to the clinic in April and booked a second procedure.  The surgery itself went very smoothly.

I have gotten passed the regrowth phase after the initial fall-out of the transplanted hair.  For those of you who are not familiar with hair transplant surgery, within a month of the surgery most of the transplanted hair falls out.  It grows back slowly over the period of up to a year and a half.   Most of the hair will have regrown by the sixth month post-op though.  In my case, I think about 75% of the hair has grown back after 4.5 months.

Even if I had no more growth, what has come in is sufficient.   I have what can be considered a full head of hair.  The remaining 25% or so that hasn’t grown back is just going to thicken things up a bit.   It’s basically icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned.

I’m glad I went for the second hair transplant.  The first basically filled in where I was thinning up top, but did nothing to bring my hair line down.
The second transplant reconstructed my hair line and temples to a Norwood 1 (on the Norwood scale for male pattern baldness).

In my opinion, at some point, if one has tried the various treatments available and given them enough of a shot to see how well they’ll work, if the results don’t measure up, a hair transplant from a really good surgeon is a good option.

Stay tuned for new pics.
