Can working too hard worsen hair loss?

Posted on Wednesday 15 March 2006

I have always wondered this. I do believe that our genes are for the most part the primary reason that some of us get to keep our locks while others end up losing them but I wonder if being overworked (and perhaps even sleep-deprived to a certain extent as a result of being overworked) can hasten the departure of our follicular units in those of us that have the genes that lead to hair loss.

I think it does. It’s just an opinion really, but I have no doubt that being overworked and not getting enough sleep leads one to climb the Norwood scale ladder at a quicker pace than if one were to get adequate rest.

Mind you this has never prevented me from being chronically overworked by choice, but still, I wonder if I may have had more hair today if I was more laid back.

Keeping up with the tradition of posting a picture with each of my latest rants, here is one I took today when I got home from work. It’s a rainbow that was absolutely ENORMOUS. Yeah, I know it’s unrelated to hair loss, but I just thought it might brighten your day a little. And in case you’re wondering, this is a picture of False Creek (not really a creek but the ocean) in Vancouver, BC:
