This year has not been great for me when it comes to fighting my hair loss. I have been constrained to using no topicals because most of them have inflamed my folliculitis. Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles. There are various different types but in general it’s not a good thing to have and it can cause permanent hair loss. It is a different form of hair loss altogether than androgenetic alopecia, which is the most common form.
I’ve basically been doing everything I can to fight this folliculitis. Recently I started using a topical called Inflamil whose creators claim may help fight inflammation. It is not meant for growing hair. I don’t know if it’s actually fighting inflammation or not, but ever since I’ve been using it my scalp is less itchy than usual. It has a soothing and cooling feeling similar to applying menthol-containing gels. I like this feeling a lot. I hope it works to actually fight the folliculitis. Fingers crossed.
On another note, unrelated to scalp inflammation, for the first time in my life I’ve grown out a full-fledged goatee. I’ve always had somewhat sparse facial hair so I was reluctant to try growing a beard. Now that I’ve grown it out I’ve been getting a lot of comments from people. Most very positive. So far most women that have commented on it have said it looks good and they think I should keep it. The only person who didn’t like it was a guy, a friend of mine who said it’s not thick enough. I think I’ll go with what the women think for now and keep it for another week or so. It has really changed my overall look. And with a short hair cut I think it looks good. People are staring at my face as opposed to my scalp these days. It may not look good for every guy, but on me it seems to fit. Maybe this time next week I’ll feel completely differently, but for now I plan on keeping the scruff.
