One of the problems that I face from time to time, is a condition called seborrheic dermatitis. It is an inflammatory condition of the skin similar to eczema or psoriasis. I get it on the scalp and sometimes a bit on my face. It seems to flare up for me in fall and winter. Whenever it happens it makes it difficult to apply topical treatments, because the skin stings when I apply it. I know that many people that suffer from hair loss also have this condition. The cause or causes are not fully understood, but there are treatments that help. I am currently rotating the following shampoos, with days between where I use a normal shampoo, and it seems to do the trick in keeping the problem to a minimum:
Nizoral 2%, Neutragena T/Gel, Nioxin Bionutrient Cleanser, Head and Shoulders, and Tea Tree Oil Shampoo.
Eating healthy seems to help too.
Even though I am currently having a flare-up, it’s not too bad since I am taking measures to control it. I believe that keeping inflammation of the scalp at bay also helps prevent hair loss in general, and helps the treatments for hair loss work better.
