Musings and rants on hair loss by the editor of Morphollica.com

A siesta would be nice right about now…

It’s about 1:30am as I am writing this. I have committed to writing at least one rant a day. I REALLY felt like cheating today and writing something inconsequential, or nothing at all, but it didn’t feel right. A vow is a vow, and breaking one is not something I want to do. Besides, in a strange way I find that writing these rants helps to keep me grounded (if that even means anything).
Anyway, I a tired as hell right now. Sleep is what I need, and that makes me wonder if sleep, or lack thereof, has any effect on hair growth. I know that prolonged lack of sleep wreaks havoc on your hormonal balance, and I have always been a light sleeper. I can never get enough of it it feels like. I wonder if much research has gone into whether getting an hour of sleep extra per night can make a difference for those of us that are using medications like Rogaine and Propecia. Can sleep give these drugs an added kick?
My job has always been one where it is difficult to maintain a proper sleep routine. I wonder if that can worsen or trigger an innate genetic condition like androgenetic alopecia. Hmmmm. I am going to try an experiment. I am going to go to bed an hour earlier whenever it is possible for me to do so (i.e. I don’t get called in to work late at night). I’ll try this for a month to see how it makes me feel in general, and also to see whether there is any improvement in my hair loss situation. I also have a condition called seborrheic dermatitis, which I have read is correlated with stress. It always seems to get worse when my sleep pattern takes a beating, and the condition seems to make my hair loss worse because it is an inflammatory skin condition. I’ll keep you posted as to the result of this test.
Okay time to sleep now bye bye…(yawn).
